UC San Diego makes electronic blunder

     On March 30, it was no early April Fool’s Joke when UC San Diego sent an acceptance email to nearly 30,000 rejected students.

 

     The applicants, some of whom had already been rejected by the university, were surprised and confused by the message. The opening line of the email read, “ We’re thrilled that you’ve been admitted to UC San Diego...” And so too were many hopeful student recipients, whose joy was crushed two hours later when the school sent out a second email apologizing for their mistake. 
     UCSD admissions director Mae Brown told the Associated Press that the invitations were intended to be sent to only 18,000 students who were actually accepted, but as a result of a “technical error,” 48,000 total acceptance emails were sent. 
     Students at Tam were among those affected by the blunder. Senior Kyle Chambers reflected on when he received the email, and said, “It was an emotional roller coaster, getting the letter and then finding out they made a mistake.”
     Chambers estimated that more than 30 fellow Tam applicants received the email.
