Streaker makes an impression at homecoming
On Saturday at halftime of Tam football’s homecoming game, the genitalia and bare chest of senior Arthur Richardson was fully on display.
Wearing nothing but a hat and a bandana on his head, Richardson ran the entire length of the football field with assistant principal Corbett Elsen running after him. Elson, who attended Northwestern University on a football scholarship, caught Richardson as he was trying to jump the fence.
“I wasn’t completely disgusted, I actually thought it was pretty funny,” said senior Ben Harris.
“I thought it was super funny, my mom even liked it,” said junior Taylor Will.
However, in the eyes of the law, public nudity is frowned upon, and serious charges can be pressed. In June 2004, world renowned British streaker Mark Roberts was barred further entry into the United States and given a $1,000 fine for trespassing after streaking in the second half of Super Bowl XXXVIII. While no legal charges have been pressed against, Richardson was suspended for three days and will now have the incident on his permanent record that goes out to colleges and universities.
Despite its popularity around the world, few have the determination and pluck to actually commit to running naked in a highly publicized setting. Richardson’s answer to what it took to actually perform his half-time streak was surprisingly simple.
“I took off all my clothes and I was like, ‘What am I doing?’ And then I ran,” said Richardson. When asked why he did it, the answer was still as clear as day, “It had to be done,” Richardson said.
Just like Roberts, Richardson has had to face the consequences of his actions. Overall, he has stated that he feels no regrets and has mostly received support from the student body and even parents, but no one can consciously take off their clothes and not escape some criticism and ridicule.
“I emailed Mr. Chamberlin and asked if I could to talk about a letter of recommendation and he said, ‘Yeah, that would be great—just wear clothes,” said Richardson.
